Irvington United Methodist Church is actively seeking a ¼ time (10 hours weekly) music director to lead our 10-15 person choir, and to lead the congregation in Sunday morning worship.
The church is a small church, with average attendance around 50. Sunday morning services are held at 11:00, with Sunday school beforehand. Choir practices are typically on Wednesday evenings, but if the candidate required a different evening of the week for practice, there would certainly be no issue there.
IUMC has historically been a church with a traditional bent – the church highly values hymns and praise songs. However, there is also an openness to contemporary worship songs. Ultimately, the choir and congregation will look to you for guidance and leadership in terms of worship. The best candidate, therefore, will demonstrate a sound understanding of different styles of worship and the theological meanings of the songs utilized.
These will vary slightly at times, but will most consistently include:
Selecting songs for weekly services (ideally a month or so in advance)
Collaborating with pastor regularly to ensure songs fit with sermonic themes
Leading choir and congregation in Sunday morning worship
Communication with church secretary to ensure songs are listed in bulletin
Ensuring selected songs contain theology consistent with a Wesleyan understanding of the scriptures
Leading weekly choir practice (typically breaks for summer, winter, etc)
Regular communication with pastor
Working with pianist and others to ensure services run smoothly
Will vary with experience, but pay is negotiable.
Interested candidates can submit resumes/questions to firstname.lastname@example.org, or are welcome to call the church at (270) 547-3502 to see about interviews.
